BIW Fixture

A BIW (Body-in-White) fixture is a specialized tooling system used in the automotive industry to hold, align, and position sheet metal components before and during the welding process. These fixtures ensure the precise assembly of the car body structure before painting and final assembly.

Types of BIW Fixtures

  • Geo Fixture (Geometrical Fixture) Ensures precise location and welding of critical structural parts. Maintains the overall geometry of the car body.

  • Respot Fixture Used for additional welding after the primary welding in geo fixtures. Ensures strength and rigidity.

  • Marriage Fixture Aligns and assembles the car body with the chassis.

  • Checking Fixture (Inspection Fixture) Used for quality control and dimensional verification of BIW parts.

  • Hemming Fixture Used to bend and seal outer panels, such as doors and hoods.

Key Features of BIW Fixtures

  • High Precision: Ensures accurate positioning and repeatability.

  • Automated or Manual Operation: Can be used in robotic welding cells or manually operated stations.

  • Modular Design: Allows flexibility for different vehicle models.

  • Material Selection: Typically made from aluminum, steel, or composites for durability.
